I am excited to announce a contest I am participating in this September! Cynthia Roberts is doing a huge blog tour and giving away $600 worth of fantastic goodies! Entrants have the chance of winning 1 of 5 prizes. Personally, I would love the chocolates!

Please visit Cynthia's Blog for more information and a peak at the loot!

Wind Warrior, The Iroquois Series ~ Book One
Leslie Michaels is a visionary, and only those close to her know of her special gift and the visions that come when her mind and body surrender to sleep.  Fate has a way of righting many wrongs, and for Leslie it is a destiny that changes her life dramatically. But not before she is forced to flee into the wilderness to escape a murderous trapper bent on claiming her for his very own.  Faith and a strong will to survive are her only companions, until she encounters Winnokin, the handsome Seneca war chief who first came to her in her dreams.  Not only does he prove to be her rescuer and protector, he teaches her that tragedy can breed happiness and the passion to live and love deeply once again.

Wind Warrior plunges readers into the intimate depths of a relationship that unfolds like a live drama before their eyes while painting an insightful and intriguing portrait of Native Indian life in the 1800s.  It is a story of longing, of a wanton need to survive all odds, and a love so strong it conquers human evil. Wind Warrior expresses with cunning words the simple, raw human emotions that hold readers spellbound and captivates their hearts.

Review: Whisper of a Witch

Whisper of a Witch
By Suza Kates

Shauni Miller has no idea why her life is changing, but she must answer when an unknown force summons her to a mystical island. She also harbors a secret, one that has the potential to alter her life forever. Dr. Michael Black helps Shauni in her time of need, but sees more in the raven-haired temptress than she ever meant to reveal. He knows she's hiding something, but then, so is he. Only the fates know what role they will play in a centuries-old prophecy. Or if one of them has to die. Source: Amazon

First of all I would like to thank Suza Kates for offering this book for review. I do not get many books specifically for review, but I appreciate those I do.

Whisper of a Witch is a tale woven in magic, enchantment, sisterhood and romance. It sparks imagination and is mystifying from the start. I love the prologue's introduction to many of the characters in the book. I was entranced by the different personalities and walks of life the characters came from. Suza does a fantastic job of character story telling, development and combining the characters into an easily understandable meld. This is some of the best character choreographing I have read.

The story is written with a passion for the setting and the characters. I loves hearing about the streets of Savannah, the foliage, culture and life. Suza writes about the beauty of the history and architecture. The settings are described in almost poetic manner with flowing details. The rich, vibrant settings cultivate escapism. I enjoyed the vacation and may very while find my way to Savannah some day.

Suza's characters are fantastic. Each beautiful, smart and heroic in her own way. Shauni is bold, confident, and well balanced. I was very pleasantly surprised at Shauni's gift. It was not what I expected. Suza takes what could be comical and makes it intriguing and smart. The book is not over done with spells and chants, but leads the reader along with hints and clues to the magic at hand. I was all but on my feet when the books secrets were finally revealed. The suspense is fantastic.

A story already written so well in setting and female prowess is only made complete with the romantic dance Shauni has with Michael. He is a great hero, a blundering fool and so very hot. My only complaint is that I did not get to spend more time with them. As this is the first book in The Savannah Coven Series a vast majority of the book involves details needed to establish the following books. The next of which being Conviction of a Witch.  I really hope this book is Paige's or Claudia's. Thank you for the magical journey Suza.

Zoe Who? Episode 3

Brad takes drastic measures to try to help Zoe see the error of her self-publishing ways. http://www.zoewinters.org

It may be my diet, but this looks like a giant, delicious pizza. Just the way I like them, with extra sauce.  I cannot help but hope super Zoe  gets dropped before the end *winks*. Zoe adamantly claims it is lava and she is in peril. I still think this is where self published authors go to eat.

Christmas in July

I have mentioned being interviewed by Keith Melton from Scribbling Ninjas. During the post we discuss why Santa is like a cowboy/wizard and his magic or in Keith's point of view lack there of. I made this observationin the post: Oh and magic. He squeezes his fat butt down a chimney house after house. Buttons never pop, zippers never squeal and his seams do not tear. Now that IS magic! You can read the post here, if you need to catch up.

Anywho, I got to thinking... Santa, realistically, should be pretty mangled up after a long night of B and E.

This is the vision I am sharing with you all:

Santa's robe is tattered and soot covered. His belly has a large black smudge from rubbing on all the chimney bricks. The white, fuzzy ball on his hat is hanging from a tread. His eyes are ringed with grim and one lense is missing from his glasses. He is only wearing one boot and one sock. One knee has a hole from trying to catch a wayward gift. His beard is crusted with milk-cookie paste. His sled is covered in parking tickets and Rudolph's nose stopped shining in Boston. Now the poor deer has a flashlight taped to his face. And the jingling bells... those are not coming from Santa. His bells now send wee puffs of dust whenever shook.

After all this hassle. I imagine Santa would want to have some fun. Perhaps seeing how far he can throw gifts from the sleigh into chimneys.  Ho, Ho, WHOLLY CRAP, THREE points! Some extreme down hill sledding. Whipping reindeer shitties in the empty store parking lots. Switching Christmas trees house to house.

So next time you find a smashed gift on your lawn on Christmas morn, you will know why *winks*.

I have been Scribbled

Come visit the Scribbling Ninjas today, where I have been interviewed by Keith Melton. He drew me too *g*.  I had a great time and hope everyone enjoys the interview.

Sneak Peak: Well, first of all thank you for having me. *privately jumps up and down, fist pumping, while spinning in circles – thank goodness no one knows* So, you can affiliate wizards and cowboys too. Glad someone else can see the parallel. But you dispute Santa’s secret YEHAA!? Get your check boxes ready...

The Phantom of Valletta Released!

I just wanted to take a moment to mention the release of The Phantom of Valletta by Vicki Hopkins. This was the second book cover I had the opportunity to design and it is available in print!

Another chapter in the life of the infamous Phantom of the Opera continues, as he leaves Paris and moves to Malta in search of a new beginning. Clothed in secrecy, he purchases The Royal Opera House in Valletta, which has been destroyed by a devastating fire. In an attempt to bury the pain of his past, the burned out shell becomes his new obsession. He is determined to resurrect the structure from ashes and return it to glory.

To raise funds for his task, he holds a masquerade and encounters a strange woman who prophesies his destiny of undoing and death. Her words haunt the Opera Ghost, but he continues on his path of restoration. After years of hard work, the gala reopening occurs. The Phantom is convinced he has reached the pinnacle of success in his life. He rests in peace over his accomplishments.

For sheer amusement, he takes on a new student, which leads him down a path of romance, mystery, and danger. His fortune unfolds before him, and he discovers he cannot hide from those who seek retribution for his former sins. He is forced to reap the consequences and comes face-to-face with his darkest demons and fears. In the end, his insatiable hunger for beauty is challenged to the core. Will he survive the obstacles he encounters or will this finally be his undoing and death?

The book looks *g* and sounds wonderful! To see a cartoon video interview (so funny) of Vicki about Phantom of Valletta, click here. For more information please visit Vicki's website or Amazon to purchase. Vicki also has a Goodreads Contest going until July 31st.

Merry Sisters of Fate Contest Entry

The Merry Sisters of Fate are having a contest! So why not weave a tale I thought. So without further ado, here is my something written inspire by the prompt: "The Princess and the Pea" by Edmund Dulac. *clears throat*

Once upon a time, there was an incredibly lazy princess. She piled her laundry and linens for the maids. Draped soiled stockings on chairs. Wore her finest white gowns through all sorts of muck and grime. The lazy princess took great pleasure in tossing the dust covered dresses and dirt filled boots onto the newly washed floors. Scattering the fresh reeds.

She slurped and sloped her dinners. Carelessly flinging her food from her platter. The royal table became a spectacle of fright to be sure. After a long day of indulgence and petulance the lazy princess had the distraught maids fetch water for her bath. Her splashing caused great greasy bubbles to float heavily out the castle windows. Popping messily on the eves and sills with splutters and squirts.

The maids watched in horror day after day as the castle became more and more filthy. Haggled and defeated one by one the maids left the rotten castle. Hasting away into the night while the princess slept in her royal bed. It did not take long for the very last dutiful maid to steal away into the twilight.

The princess, stubborn chit she was, carried on as though all was well. Her heaping piles of laundry smoldered in the sunlight. Dappled rays of sun highlighted the royal dining halls spots and streaks of organic spill. The bed was covered with linen after linen, as the bottom became stiff with grit. The proud lazy princess climbed her bed each night, ignoring the lumps and bumps under the layers of ratty fabric.

To this day the lazy princess sits perched atop her pile of lace, velvet and silks. Chin held high with her pert little nose tilted up. Even if scrunched ever so slightly from the smell.

Aches and Pains

The Thursday sickness struck my family. First my son, then the following Thursday my daughter. And last but not least on the third Thursday I was struck down. I do believe my son's and daughter's germs combined to create a SUPER sickness. I got a fever, chills, sore throat, lost my voice (this really scared the kids) and last but not least an ear infection. This is no ordinary ear infection. It has a life of it's own. I can no longer count the tears I have cried. Yes, 30+ year old women can sob in the bathroom at 4 am.

My husband, finally, feeling bad for me looked up some cures online. I have already been through the antibiotics. They did not help. So he starts reading off a list of ingredients to be squirted, squeezed and dripped into my ear. And by ingredients I mean FOOD stuffs. How the hell do people think this shit up!? Vinegar, garlic, cooking oil, and on and on. The conclusion I came to was that I should fill me ear with smelly shit, walk into a wooded area, lie down and let the woodland creatures gnaw my ear off. Otherwise my ear has just become the best vampire repellent known to man.

Last night we ordered out for pizza. Pizza has garlic. Warmth is suppose to help... Damn but I wanted to shove a piece in my aching ear. So in conclusion, my ear still feels full, but "wetter". We did get some drops to put in it. No, not food *giggles*. I will beat this or start buying salad ingredients.

10 Degrees of a Wizard Cowboy

During a conversation with a friend I found myself contemplating wizards. You know the ones with pointy starred hats, flowing velvet robes, white beards and a wicked magical sticks. Because my imagination often runs its own course somewhere in the chatting I became inundated with thoughts of "words" wizards like. Words like orb, glen, shire etc.

At one point I mentioned that wizards like the word "buckle". My exact words were, "And buckles! Big shiny buckles! That twinkle!" But as I thought about it, that just did not seem right. I was thinking of cowboys. So, because my imagination decided to go with it, I will share with you, my friends, why cowboys and wizards are alike!
Bet you did not see that coming!
  • They both wear hats.
  • They ride horses.
  • They tend to be scruffy.
  • Woman are both intimidated and drawn to them.
  • They DO NOT like clowns or jesters in the case of the wizard.
  • Most smoke (though in different ways).
  • Belts! Some with buckles!
  • They use sticks for wicked and not so wicked things *winks*.
  • They usually sport scars of some sort.
  • Long hair.
  • They prefer living in secluded places.
  • Can often time be found riding off into the sunset.
  • Both feel they are above the law.
  • An itchy trigger finger is also a common trait.
Then it struck me. Not only are wizards and cowboys alike, but they are exactly like SANTA too! Except for perhaps the deep resentment of clowns. But you never know...

Today is my birthday! I am another year 30! I was going to do a huge party with all kinds of prizes and fun, but I am not as popular as I thought *g*. Krap My Kids Say

How do I know my reading influences my children? When my 6 year old baby girl starts writing and illustrating her own paranormal book! See the lovely teeth on the princess!?

My daughter: Work is like school except it lasts all year.
Son: It lasts forever, till you die!
Me and my husband weep silently!

Son: Do bones grow with humans.
Husband: Yes they do.
Son: That's good because otherwise we would flop around.

Daughter: Can cats read?
Husband: No, cats cannot read.
Daughter: Then why does the cat door say "PUSH"?

Daughter: Why is that man biking without a shirt?
Me: Men can do that.
Daughter: Well, I think it is kind-a disgusting.
Son: I would have to agree. I think they do it to attract females with their bellies.

Daughter: If they move a cemetery do the dead come alive and eat peoples flesh?

Daughter: Look mom your monkey is reading.
Me: That is not a monkey it is a frog.
Daughter: That is stupid, frogs can't read!

Daughter: Are you getting me some milk?
Me: Here is your milk princess. Is there anything else I can get my princess. Perhaps I will kiss your royal toes. I proceed to make a big show of taking off her socks and kissing the top of each foot.
Is there anything else I can do for your highness?
Daughter: Yah, you can kiss my butt!

Me: You are grounded.
Son: *sighs* How long this time?
Me: Forever.
Son: *perks up* You cannot ground me forever. When I turn 18 I will be an adult and move out.
Me: Promise?

Me: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Daughter: A model.
Me: A runway model?
Daughter: No, one of the ones that work on the street.
Me: What!?
Daughter: You know, the ones that play instruments and have boxes for people to drop money in.
Me: That is not a model and you cannot be a peddler when you grow up. Why don't you be a designer like me?
Daughter: That would be too much work.

The Setting: A heated game of Monopoly between father and daughter. Daughter just had another bad luck turn...
Daughter: Dad, is son-of-a-bitch a bad word?

Further Discussions with daughter concerning men without shirts...
Daughter: It is gross.
Me: Always? What about book covers?
Daughter: While it is ok if they [the manly chests] are golden.
Dad: How are they suppose to get "golden" if they cannot have their shirts off.
Daughter: Paint.

Me: I am on a diet.
Daughter: Why?
Me: Cause I don't want to be fat.
Son: *laughing to himself*
Me: WHAT!?
Son: Your not fat you are medium.
Me: What does that mean?
Son: You are more skinny than fat!

Son: I know what boobs are... they are floppy muscle!
(Said while cupping his little hand and bouncing it around in front of his chest.)

Daughter: Who bought my Leapster from eBay?
Me: Someone in Pennsylvania.
Daughter: Ohhhh, that's where vampires live.
Me: No, that's Transylvania.

Dad: Hey, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is on sale on blu-ray.
Daughter: Who is Mr. and Mr. Stiff?

Following being sick the previous night we asked our daughter how she was doing after eating soup...
She replied, "Good, I can eat like a human again."

Me (speaking to my son): Would you like a Christmas stocking or bag this year?
Son: Which one is bigger?

Husband: Stop doing that!
Daughter: Or what?
Husband: Or else.
Daughter: Or else what?
Husband: Or you will have hell to pay.
Daughter: How much?

The scene: We were driving home at night on a lighted street with big, fluffy snow flakes falling.
Daughter: "Wow, look at the snow! It is 3D!"

Daughter: "I want root beer, let's open up a cheerleader!"
Dad: "I think you mean a two liter."

Son writing about what happened in three chapters of a book for school:
"They talked about something."
Me: Yes, but what were they talking about?
Son: They talked about what was happening!
*slaps head*

KRAP MY HUSBAND SAYS:
Daughter: Are grapes a fruit or vegetable?
Dad (husband): Do they taste good?
Daughter: Yes
Dad: Then they are a fruit.

Son when filling out application for elementary school AM radio show:
Question: Why do you want to be part of the broadcasting team?
Son's answer: cause it would be fun
Question: What would make you an asset to the team?
Son's answer: because I am awesome (written as: asome)
This took him 15 minutes of deep thinking. I could not have answered better myself *g*.

While playing Drake's Fortune:
Baby Girl: "Why do they call him Zorro Bitch?"
Husband: "It's LaZarovitch!"

Me: Which book cover do you think young people would like more?
Daughter: The new one. On that one she looks like a whore.
Me: *gasp*
Me: What!?
Daughter: You know, a whore, like a scary movie.
Me: You mean horror!

Daughter: How do women get pregnant?
Me: Well, it all starts with kissing...
Daughter: EWWWW... so you drink SPIT!!!???
Me: *laughing* No, it is not the spit. It involves the woman's woo-hoo and man's ding-dong.
Daughter: WAIT! You did THAT?
Me: You are here, aren't you?
Daughter: YOU LET DAD PEE IN YOUR MOUTH!!!!????
