Mermaid
By Carolyn Turgeon

Broadway
March 1, 2011
ISBN#: 978-0307589972
Amazon.com

Two sheltered princesses, one wounded warrior; who will live happily ever after?

Princess Margrethe has been hidden away while her kingdom is at war. One gloomy, windswept morning as she stands in a convent garden overlooking the icy sea, she witnesses a miracle: a glittering mermaid emerging from the waves, a nearly drowned man in her arms. By the time Margrethe reaches the shore, the mermaid has disappeared into the sea. As Margrethe nurses the handsome stranger back to health, she learns that not only is he a prince, he is also the son of her father's greatest rival. Sure that the mermaid brought this man to her for a reason, Margrethe devises a plan to bring peace to her kingdom.

Meanwhile, the mermaid princess Lenia longs to return to the human man she carried to safety. She is willing to trade her home, her voice, and even her health for legs and the chance to win his heart....

A surprising take on the classic tale, Mermaid is the story of two women with everything to lose. Beautifully written and compulsively readable, it will make you think twice about the fairytale you heard as a child, keeping you in suspense until the very last page.

Private I Interview/Giveaway: Eliza Gayle, Malcolm

Please welcome Eliza Gayle to Intense Whisper! Make sure to check out all of Eliza's tour stops!

Private I with Eliza Gayle

The author saunters confidently into the office of O.F.U.C, but stops short when she sees the leather studded wall lined with skulls...

Thank you for coming in. Were you informed of the reason you were brought in today? Uhh…No. But if it has anything to do with the incident last week I really don’t have an explanation…

We believe your character may be involved in suspicious activity. When and where is the last time you saw your character? Why am I not surprised? The last time I saw Malcolm he was holed up in a cabin in the North Carolina mountains with some chick. I think there might have been some rope involved.

For the record, can you please say and spell your characters full name and any known aliases. Malcolm Gunn. That’s M.A.L.C.O.L.M He’s also been referred to as death enforcer, kidnapper, heart breaker, troublemaker and outcast.

Do know where your character may be now? He’s probably in the last place you’d think to look. He’s got so many hidey-holes in these woods that you’re not likely to find him until he’s ready to be found.

Can you please give a brief description of your character? Really tall, like over six feet with short black hair and those damned dark green eyes that have a way of mesmerizing women. Just look for the guy with lots of muscles in the snug t-shirt and a cocky attitude. Of course if you catch him in a bad mood or looking to play, you might be looking for black fur and fangs. Although I’d be cautious then if I were you.

Do you have a recent picture of the subject? Sure, I have a picture of him. He’s hard to forget though.

What was the demeanor of the subject like when you last met? He had a bit of a single-minded focus and it wasn’t on me if you get my drift.

Have they been fraternizing with anyone new as of late? He’s usually such a loner but ever since that woman Cheyenne came into the picture he’s changed.

We understand that you are the author of the character, but can you describe your personal relationship with them? Oh hell, where do I even start? I’ve never met such a stubborn, demanding sex-crazed man in my life. Does he listen to me? Hell no. Does he cooperate when it’s time to write? Double no. I thought I knew everything there was to know about him, yet he managed to surprise me on an almost daily basis. I’m amazed I have any hair left.

Do you know your character intimately? I do. He’s not always been a man you’d want to love and if I didn’t know better from the beginning I might have given up on him years ago. Clan life isn’t easy for a shapeshifter and when you make a hard decision that has repercussions you don’t expect, well, things tend to hit the fan.

We found this with your characters prints on it. Can you please tell me what it is? Wow. I didn’t expect to see that again. That’s Malcolm’s favorite belt. Can I ask where you found it? Wait. On second thought don’t tell me. I don’t think I want to know.

Is there anything else you think may be helpful?
Watch the news. You’ll be looking for a story about unexplained trouble. That’s where you’ll find him.

If we, or our associates have any further questions, where can you be found? Uhm…likely chained to my desk, slaving over my computer as I work to meet my next deadline. Either there or at my favorite Mexican place sucking down some mango margaritas until inspiration strikes. If you find me there please don’t tell my editor, okay?

The masked figure rises abruptly and leans over the desk to whisper quietly in the authors ear, "Thank you for your cooperation". The author shivers and gasps when the figure disappears.

As the author turns to leave, a pile of folders of the desk can be seen. Each stamped as containing confidential information for the Office of Fictional Unaccounted for Characters or O.F.U.C.

MALCOLM by Eliza Gayle
Available April 5, 2011

He can run be he can’t hide. Not from duty. Not from danger. And especially not from the woman who forces him to face the truth.

Malcolm Gunn’s time is running out along with his ability to shift. When confronted with his past he thinks he’s found a solution. With the help of a little rope, he can let nature takes its course. Unfortunately the woman who is the key to his existence harbors a powerful secret that will destroy them both.

Cheyenne’s been hired to track and retrieve Malcolm at any cost. Her only plan is to get in, get out and keep her sanity intact. In that order. But she’s been warned…If he catches her, he will stake his claim whether she is willing or not.

Deceit and lies bring them together. Murder puts them on the run. Their enemies are closing in and there’s only one, irreversible way out. Some choices can never be forgiven and one man’s anger can destroy it all…Malcolm.

We are offering a reward for any information leading to the apprehension of this character. Leave a comment to win a digital download of one of the three Black cougar books: Lucas, Kane or Malcolm (winner’s choice)!

Contest ends April 29th, 2011. International entries welcome. Please leave your email address (name AT domain DOT com). One entry per household.

Location Contemplation

Help! I need a conversation! Lately me and the hubs have been talking a lot about location. More exactly, do you love where you live and if you could live anywhere (within your means) were would you choose to live. Would be you brave enough to grasp the dream and take the risk? To move to a different state?

We live in the north. In one of the coldest states in the US, no not Alaska or North Dakota *g*. The other miserable place. And though we love our home and city we DO NOT love where they are located. So perhaps we should move to a warmer climate with more activities that interest us. Neither of us can come up with a single thing we WANT to do here. If we want to relax we need to get on a plane or drive for hours. So our days run together in this lovely house where we live and work.

I look at pictures of shore sunsets and sigh. Green lands and tropical trees. Thoughts of "Oh the life" and "Wouldn't it be nice..." running through my head. Do these really need to be just dreams?

So what about you? Do you love where you live? Would you recommend others move there? Why? Please feel free to be vague about the exact location if you want. But do share!

How to Flirt with a Naked Vampire
By Molly Harper

Pocket

ISBN#: 978-1439195864

Northern Exposure

Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.

For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.

If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . . .

Guest Post by Tessa Adams/Dark Embers Contest!

Ten Things I Bet You Didn’t Know About Dragons
Guest post by Tessa Adams

First of all, thanks so much, Robin, for having me.  I always enjoy coming to visit here at Intense Whisper.

Today, I want to talk about one of my nerdy little secrets—although, since I wrote a 600 page dissertation for my Ph.D, I guess it’s not such a secret, after all—and that is, that I love to research.  Love, love, love to research—anything and everything.  There’s just something about diving into a new subject and poking around in it for a while that makes me a very happy woman—which is why being a writer is such a great occupation for me.  I love nothing more than to come up with a new idea for a book and then dive into different areas of the idea, finding out as much as I can about all of them.  In my newest book, Hidden Embers, I was in heaven.  I got to spend a lot of time researching viruses and the CDC, New Mexico, caves and dragons.  What more can a geeky girl like me ask for?

As I was researching, I ran across some fun and interesting facts about dragons and thought this blog would be a perfect time for me to share them with you.  So, with no further ado, here are some interesting things I’ve found out about dragons since starting the Dragon’s Heat series.
  1. Dragons are considered the wisest and most cunning of the shapeshifters
  2. In the old days, dragons existed on a steady diet of sheep, goats and virgin women
  3. For hundreds of years, people believed dinosaur bones were actually dragon fossils
  4. Dragons are considered lucky creatures... a dragon sighting or being born in the year of the dragon is supposed to bring health, wealth, and long life.
  5. Dragons love literature and all kinds of music - especially rock and roll ;)
  6. Some dragons begin life as fish, usually carp
  7. Dragons love water and cannot drown
  8. For centuries, dragon symbols and pictures were used to ward off evil and demons
  9. Dragons love luxury and usually sleep on beds of gold, jewels and expensive fabrics
  10. Dragons are the subject of more video games than any other animal (obviously because they’re so much cooler than any other animal)
So, do you agree?  Are dragons the best or do you prefer a different kind of shifter?  I’m partial, obviously, to dragons, but I also love leopards and selkies.  In fact, I like selkies enough that I wrote one (well, actually several now that I think about it) in my May book, Tempest Rising.

Thank you so much for the post Tessa. You are always welcome here! I cannot wait to read your Dragon's Heat series and Tempest Rising. To answer your question myself I love dragons as shifters, so majestic and mysterious. Coiled power and grace.

Hidden Embers
By Tessa Adams aka Tracy Wolf

Deep in the New Mexico desert there is a secret race on the brink of extinction—the pure-blood shapeshifters of the Dragonstar clan. And they have one last, desperate hope for survival…
Quinn Maguire is a powerful Dragonstar healer at a tragic loss, unable to cure the insidious disease killing off his people. Yet even in such dire circumstances the conservative Quinn is secretly disapproving of the alternative: Dr. Jasmine Kane, enlisted by the head of the Dragonstar clan to help abort the virus. She is a wild card.  She is an outsider. She is human.

Decked out in black leather and a tough attitude, Jasmine clashes with Quinn in more ways than one. And when destiny chooses her for his Mate, he doesn't know whether to rejoice or rebel.  Because while Jasmine makes him burn hotter than any woman--dragon or human-- ever has, their differences make a relationship impossible.

But when a rival infiltrates the clan and attacks Jasmine, Quinn becomes desperate. Jasmine is now the first human to be infected with the disease—and Quinn must do everything he can to find a cure, and save the woman he has grown to love.

Answer Tessa's question (So, do you agree? Are dragons the best or do you prefer a different kind of shifter?) to be entered to win one of two copies of Dark Embers along with some really fun swag! Following is not required but is greatly appreciated.

Contest ends April 21st, 2011. USA only - two winners.  Please leave your email address (name AT domain DOT com). One entry per household.

Keeping it Real
By Justina Robson

Pyr
March 14, 2007
ISBN#: 978-1591025399
Amazon.com

The Quantum Bomb of 2015 changed everything. The fabric that kept the universe's different dimensions apart was torn and now, six years later, the people of earth exist in uneasy company with the inhabitants of, amongst others, the elven, elemental and demonic realms. Magic is real and can be even more dangerous than technology. Elves are exotic, erotic, dangerous and really bored with the constant Lord of the Rings references. Elementals are a law unto themselves and demons are best left well to themselves. Special agent Lila Black used to be pretty but now she's not so sure. Her body is now more than half restless carbon and metal alloy machinery. A machine she's barely in control of. It goes into combat mode, enough weapons for a small army springing from within itself, at the merest provocation. As for her heart ...well ever since being drawn into a Game by the elven rockstar she's been assigned to protect, she's not even sure she can trust that anymore either.
